Summer is quickly approaching and for those who don’t have any plans yet, that can sound unexciting. Luckily, Lake Mary is situated right outside of Orlando, putting you in close proximity to the season’s biggest events.
If you love concerts, then you’re in luck: Orlando is home to several major music venues that host the largest concerts in the nation. The Amway Center will host some of the biggest names in pop this summer, such as Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, and Selena Gomez. If you’re looking for something more metal, the annual Vans Warped Tour hits Orlando Saturday, July 2. This year’s performers include: 3OH!3, Mayday Parade, and Waka Flocka Flame. For those who prefer something more underground and budget friendly, check out The Beacham’s little brother: The Social. This venue hosts hundreds of events, with most tickets starting at only $20. Be sure to mark your calendars for July 3, because Altamonte Springs’ biggest Fourth of July celebration, Red, Hot, and Boom, is hitting Cranes Roost for its twenty-first year. “I love Red, Hot, and Boom because I get to see some of my favorite performers for free,” said sophomore Emma Stack. The lineup will be released closer to the event, but seeing as to admission is 100% free, you already know you’re going to be there.

Do you enjoy cute breakfast cafes with delicious food? Well, Keke’s Breakfast Cafe is coming right here to Lake Mary. This cozy brunch venue is a perfect place to grab a meal with friends, not to mention, its wallet friendly too. And if you’re looking for laughs this summer, head down to the Sak Comedy Lab, located in Downtown Orlando. Each night, local comedians perform various improv-themed shows that won’t break the bank. “SAK is such an enjoyable show,” said sophomore Samantha McLoughlin. “The shows they put on are great. I never leave without laughing so hard my stomach hurts.” Of course, no Orlando summer is complete without a dose Mickey Mouse, so why not travel over to the revamped Downtown Disney: Disney Springs. From fine dining to snazzy shops to the ultimate bowling experience, Disney Springs is a crowd pleaser all around. If you’re looking to be artistically stimulated, look no further than the Orlando Museum of Art. This facility houses various exhibits with assorted styles and breathtaking masterpieces; admission is only $5 for students.

For those who enjoy the gorgeous outdoors, consider paying a visit to Harry P. Leu Gardens, located right outside of Downtown Orlando. This beautiful garden boasts 50 acres of fantastic flora and offers various activities, including seasonal art expositions and “Date Night Movies”. Admission is $3 for students (grades K-12). If you’re looking for a real adventure, gather up some friends, sleeping bags, and s’mores for a night of camping. The parks are usually booked during the summer, so it’s recommended you reserve your campsite ahead of time. For those who want something a little more leisurely, check out one of the three “Showcase paved trails” Seminole County has to offer. From Aloma to Winter Springs, these trails take you all across Central Florida while providing you with a scenic view of the local flora and fauna.

Summer doesn’t have to be boring. You live on the outskirts of Orlando, one of the biggest cities in the South. There’s something for every taste and any budget. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your summer now!
