Why is it so hard to get tickets to concerts?
Getting tickets to a concert can get really stressful, especially when it’s a big artist. Over the years, getting tickets to events has become more and more complicated, and big entertainment companies such as Live Nation, which owns the #1 ticket seller, TicketMaster, hasn’t helped, even with strict rules for buyers such as 4 ticket capacity, don’t resell, and a specific code in pre-sales, so it’s easier for people to get tickets so bots don’t get to them first. But in the end, it doesn’t work and makes it harder for fans to get a hold of tickets.
TicketMaster controversy??
We all know about the Taylor Swift TicketMaster incident that happened multiple times in just one year, alongside
Beyonce, The Jonas Brothers, SZA, and so many more artists. It’s becoming such a struggle to score tickets to see your favorite artist, but because of everything that happened, surprisingly, TicketMaster is finally under investigation. Sam Cole, a writer for Highsnobiety, made the statement that “Live Nation Entertainment controls a 70% share of live event ticketing while owning several secondary market platforms, effectively controlling the sale and resale of ticketed events and the venues housing them,” which leads to the pricing issue. TicketMaster goes crazy with prices already, but before people can get to the tickets, resellers get there first. Bruno Mars is an example.
The original prices when the sale started for his Florida concert were around $500–$800 an hour later, prices went up to $6,000 for one seat on TicketMaster and $5,000 from resale websites. Due to this issue, it’s hard to afford a ticket, but people are willing to go to the fullest extent to see or atleast hear their favorite person live. Taylor Swift fans as another example wait till the last moment to find affordable tickets to her concert. The only way they can do that is if they wait until almost the end of her concert to be able to get in just in time for her surprise songs. If resellers refuse to lower the price, thousands of fans will sit outside the stadium together just to hear her live. Let’s hope, maybe soon enough, that TicketMaster will actually fix this issue and let fans see their favorite artist at a reasonable price.
