There are several reasons why some people believe that a 4 day school week could be beneficial to students. I think shortening the school week by making the school days a hour or two longer can lead to improved attendance, engagement, and academic performance. In addition shorter school weeks can relieve a ton of stress off students and over all improve their well being. I’m sure that students would prefer to have a 4 day school week rather than a 5 day school week.
Shortened school weeks can improve overall academic performance. By going to school only 4 days a week, students can get more rest, which leads to better focus and concentration in the classroom. Additionally, having a longer weekend provides opportunities for more extracurricular activities such as sports, a job or even hobbies. Attending extracurricular activities can improve a person’s overall intellectual growth. Having a shortened week is perfect for anyone that does any extracurricular activities.
Another benefit of a shortened school week is extra time for homework or anything school related. Long weekends provide more time to get any projects and homework completed and even more time to study for upcoming tests. My friend Sam says “ I think a shortened school week could definitely improve my grades. Because I play softball and sometimes I don’t have enough time to get all my homework done.” Sometimes it’s hard for students to manage a student athlete life but with the help of only a 4 day week could do some major improvement for academics.
Shortened school weeks can improve a student’s overall attendance. I personally know some students that can’t handle a 5 day school week because it’s very draining for them, and sometimes they leave school early or even skip a day of school because they need a break. Many students also don’t attend school some days because of sports. Sometimes they have tournaments or competitions they have to attend meaning they miss school. My friend Allie says “I think a 4 day school week would definitely improve my attendance, because I play volleyball and sometimes I have to skip school to attend tournaments.” Many students struggle with long school weeks and I believe that if we shorten the school weeks that it would improve many students’ attendance.
4 day school weeks could benefit students such as improved academic performance, engagement and improved attendance. Shortened school weeks can also improve a students mental heath and their overall well being. I believe that the majority of students would prefer to have a 4 day school week rather than a 5 day school week. There are numerous benefits to a shortened week such as it takes a lot of stress off of a student and it gives them more time to do the things they love.
