Have you heard of the “what are we wearing this fall?” posts circulating on tiktoks algorithm, or the trend of stanleys? We go through trends like candy, we eat it up but once we’re sick of it we stop. Kids are very influential and eat that UP, but they’ll get cavities eventually. You can go to dentists to fill them, but they’ll always be there. Take “Sephora kids”, It’s normal for most young girls to try on their moms makeup, but this has taken a turn DRASTICALLY!
Young “influencers” are doing extensive skincare routines, to remain “youthful”. BUT THEY’RE ALREADY AS YOUTHFUL AS THEY CAN BE! Their skin’s protective barrier is thin and underdeveloped. Imagine the lasting effects of that, they can go to as many dermatologists as they can. But it wont change the lasting effects that’ll have on a kid.
Kids are VERY influenced. What’s also on the internet? Influencers, their job IS to influence. Influencers promote brands, like Sephora. This also roots in a lot of young kids’ insecurities. There’s PARENTS just letting their kids DRAIN their bank accounts to feed into this, parents even FILMING their kids and posting it online. The parents endorsing it feeds the fire with more fuel, to steam ahead right into Sephora! This can be rooted into toxic beauty standards, and insecurities. These are elementary kids putting on makeup and doing skincare, they haven’t even hit PUBERTY yet!
The percentages are already high for teenagers that have insecurities, and now preschoolers are being sucked into beauty standards. They haven’t even had a single blemish on their skin yet! What’s your take on how influential trends are?
