If you don’t have a problem with deer eating your front and back yard, you can thank a hunter. The fact is we just don’t have mountain lions and wolves roaming the streets of America. The natural predators for a lot of game species are either gone or very limited. Without predators, game populations explode and this brings disease, public nuisance and other issues. This is where the hunter comes in.
These are the reason’s my family and I hunt. It helps keep deer from overpopulating, Cuts down on Grocery expenses, It teaches Marksmanship, Its a way to pass time. It can also teach kids how to properly use a gun and how to track a deer along with wilderness survival skills.
An issue with other methods of wildlife control like sterilization and contraception are costly and are not effective to keep wildlife in control. Unlike those Hunting has been proven more effective when it comes to wildlife populations and its cost effective. Articles state that “In communities where contraception is used to control white-tailed deer populations the average annual cost for the programs is $40,940. The initial cost for capture and vaccination in one program was found to be $513/ deer with an additional cost of $103/deer for a booster injection, where the initial vaccine is good for approximately 2 years and the booster provides sterility for an additional year”.
Hunting helps the U.S Economy by bringing more money in and supporting jobs all over the U.S. As the article states “Hunting has a huge economic impact on the United States economy each year. In fact, hunting contributes more than $24 billion annually and supports over 600,000 jobs. The sale of hunting licenses and excise taxes collected from the sale of sporting equipment such as firearms and ammunition are two of the primary funding streams for state fish and wildlife agencies (through the American System of Conservation Funding). Hundreds of millions of dollars for conservation are generated in this way each year. No one demographic has ever done more for wildlife conservation than hunters”.
