Urban Fashion has made a big appearance in the fashion world. Especially for black teens. A lot of teen girls are seen wearing jean skirts with a collared shirt that’s layered with a cropped sweater and a tie to finish the outfit. The shoes to go with these outfits are usually shoes like Maison Mihara Yasuhiro low tops, knu skool vans, new balances and even Rick Owens high top shoes. This style has even made its way into how some adults dress, it’s a style that is very well known in school but even some adults are taking part in this trend. The boys usually wear clothes like sweaters and long sleeve shirts that are a little oversized hanging over the hand. The pants are usually some oversized jorts or some baggy pants like stacked jeans for example. It is also a trend to leave the tag on pants that are designer, not everyone does anymore but some people still like to do it to kind of show off the quality of what they’re wearing. Boys pair their outfits with shoes like new balances, asics, timbs, Rick Owen, Nike Vomeros, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro and more. In 2025, these are just a glimpse of the trendy new school look today.
In today’s society, women are becoming more stylish with their outfits. A mix of clothes for men and clothes for women are being thrown together and it actually looks good! For example, ties are being worn in urban fashion for both men and women but the women are taking it to the next level. Ties are being worn with skirts giving off the “school girl” or “smart girl look”. Men are usually seen wearing ties over regular white collared shirts, giving off the baggy look while also serving a preppy boy type of look. For the bottoms, men usually pair it with a pair of jorts because nowadays that’s a style in urban fashion. The jorts are either oversized or it’s loose fitting but not too oversized. For men, the loose baggy style stems from streetwear and y2k. Both of those looks are a combination for the style that men are wearing today. In the early 2000’s, men were wearing baggy clothes which included shirts, shorts, and pants. It’s making an appearance in 2025 once again but also for women’s fashion also.
Even in different aesthetics, urban fashion can still be seen. For example, in alt fashion which is based around wearing clothes like fish nets, fur boots and skirts, urban fashion can be noticed. In the black community, alt fashion can be a black leather skirt with a loose sweater on top, a bag to match, knee high converse and fish nets. Knee high converses are also becoming popular in the urban and alt fashion community, people aren’t afraid to express their creativity anymore and it shows in how they dress and style their clothes. Trends like this are what makes the older gen z generation stand out more. We are unique and it shows.
Yenivel Veraz: I decided to interview my friend to get her opinion on what she thinks about our fashion trends today. I asked, “What are your thoughts on the current fashion trend?” She replied, “I think that the the Nike Vomeros are very nice, I like how people are styling them. They kinda look like New balances or Aspics.” In our generation we basically turned “Grandpa Shoes” into the new style. Not only are these shoes comfy but if you style them accordingly, you can be dripped out too. Urban Fashion is kind of the face for fashion for the Gen Z now days. It’s new and it can get very creative.
