Space is very interesting to learn and talk about. But it is also really mysterious and a lot of things are still unknown. How do black holes even exist? Are wormholes real? Can a moon have a moon orbiting around it? However, none of these questions come close to by far the largest and most debated question about space which is… are Aliens real? Some believe Aliens do exist and the government is just hiding any information about them from the public. Others think they don’t exist and we are the only life in the entire universe. Some even believe they are real, but we just can’t see them or they might even be purposely hiding from us. However, with limited evidence and most knowledge of Aliens being entirely nonexistent, this question can become tricky to find an answer to.
When asked about their personal beliefs about aliens, Freshman June Binkerd said:
R: Do you personally believe that aliens are real?
J: “Yes, I don’t think god would have let us be the only living things in this big universe.”
R: I see. May you please explain why you think that aliens do exist and aren’t a hoax or just a fictional thing?
J: “Space is infinite, there could even be multiverses we could never know about, keep your mind open.”
R: Got it. Have you or anyone you know ever experienced or seen anything unusual? Could be a ghost sighting, could be a UFO sighting, could be a UFO sighting, could be some weird looking creature, etc.
J: “Not that I know of, but it would be very cool.”
R: Would you say you are particularly interested in things like cryptids, mythology, creatures, ghosts, or something along those lines?
J: “100%, I love all of those things.”
R: Understandable. Would you say you know an average, above average, or large amount of information regarding things like aliens and ghosts and cryptids?
J: “Well, I’m really into mythology and I know a lot of stuff like that and I know a whole ton about ghosts.
R: Interesting! Thanks for your time.
Another student, Jemene Kanandi, was also asked about her beliefs about aliens, and she said this:
R: Do you personally believe that aliens are real?
J: “No, I don’t think aliens are real.”
R: And why do you not believe in their existence?
J: “Because there is no solid evidence and as we know life is only sustainable on Earth to our knowledge. Now, if they were real, it makes sense with our big universe, so it’s possible, but no, from what I know, I don’t think they are.”
A third student, Analee Brave, was also asked about her beliefs on aliens.
R: Do you personally believe that aliens are real?
A: “Not personally.”
R: And why is that, if I may ask?
A: Yes, there’s A LOT of weird stuff in the world, but we as humans ARE weird. Also, I’ve seen enough Ancient Aliens in a lifetime to feel like the whole thing is a bit of a stretch.”
R: I’d say that’s lowkey pretty fair. Is there really anything paranormal that you believe in? Things like ghosts or cryptids or mythology or vampires, stuff like that.
A: “I’m not a big believer of paranormal things, but I do LOVE media that talks about vampires and mythology, I just really like animals.”
R: Real. Do you think there’s even a slight chance of any evidence ever being made or discovered that would lead to some paranormal creature or fictional being actually being real, or do you think they don’t exist and never will?
A: “I don’t think so to be honest, but on the slight chance I want vampires to be real.”
R: Mk, so you simply don’t think they exist at all, correct?
A: “Correct.”
R: Ok, that’s pretty reasonable. Thanks for your time.
Now that we have seen some of what the public thinks about aliens, let’s get to the facts behind the argument on whether they are real or not.
According to NASA themselves, there hasn’t been any evidence found that directly supports the idea that aliens are real, but there have been planets and moons that could be habitable enough for living organisms to live on. For example, NASA has been targeting one of Jupiter’s moons named Europa, which has water below its surface, and an atmosphere that consists of oxygen. They have also found exoplanets that could potentially support habitable life too, like TRAPPIST-1e, or Kepler-186f.
But what about indirect evidence like supposed alien sightings?
In 1947, debris near Roswell, New Mexico, was recovered by the U.S. Military, and was initially described as a “flying disc” before officially being identified as a top-secret high altitude balloon from Project Mogul. However, this incident sparked a lot of controversy and distrust in the government, and caused a LOT of conspiracy theories to be made about potential extraterrestrial life. There are also other conspiracy theories like the reason behind the Marfa Lights, which are unidentified and mysterious glowing orbs that appear every so often near Marfa, Texas. Some have said that the lights are just phenomena or car lights glowing from a distance, while others have linked them to UFO’s. There has yet to be an exact explanation for why these lights appear. Another popular sighting was the USS Nimitz encounter which occurred in November 2004 when some Navy Pilots off the coast of Costa Rica observed an unknown aerial object with very advanced flight characteristics that rapidly descended from high altitude to sea level and performing maneuvers that mirrored the F-18 fighter jets that were investigating it, then accelerating rapidly and disappearing out of sight. High classed footage was leaked in 2017 leading to more debates on potential alien life. But this still doesn’t answer the question, are aliens real?
The answer to that is no, they aren’t as there isn’t any real scientifically proven evidence to confirm that they do exist, with the only “evidence” being unexplained phenomena or footage.
