Should you get the Travis Scott Meal?

On September 8th a limited-edition meal was brought to the McDonald’s menu, the Travis Scott meal. The new meal is just a quarter pounder with cheese with Travis Scott’s go-to topping, a medium order of fries with barbeque dipping sauce, and a Sprite. The meal isn’t very complex but has received tons of media hype due to the famous rapper’s connection with the meal. So today I decided I would try this meal out for myself.

After trying the new meal, I don’t feel as though it was all that. The burger just tasted like any other quarter pounder with a bit of bacon and the french fries with the barbeque dipping sauce was nothing super exciting. Now by no means do I feel like the meal was bad, it was just average. It brought nothing new to the table to make it so iconic: no new dipping sauce, no new flavor of Sprite, and no new seasoning for the fries. If anything McDonald consumers could have been having this exact meal for ages, just by asking for a few more toppings on their quarter pounder.

The hype the meal was given plays a big part in how I feel about the meal. If it was just a regular McDonald’s meal that had nothing to do with a huge rapper and received such huge media success, I probably would have said the meal was decent and left it at that. Since the meal was heavily praised online I went into this thinking this was going to be one of the best meals ever, it just wasn’t. The meal didn’t match the hype it was given whatsoever. If this meal had no connection to Travis Scott not nearly as many people would think so highly of it.

I asked my mother, Daisy Arroyo, who tried the meal out with me, for her opinion. “I think it was pretty good nothing too much, I have definitely had something that has tasted like this before. I thought the bacon was a nice touch, I actually didn’t hate the lettuce in the burger which is rare, but I didn’t bother with the barbeque sauce dipped fries since I already know I won’t like it. Overall I would rate it a 6/10.”

This meal just seems as it was more of a business move rather than a culinary move. Travis Scott already has limited-edition merchandise advertising this new partnership. McDonald’s knew what they were doing, they didn’t need to make an amazing meal for it to sell. All McDonalds needed to do was heavily advertise the meal with the famous rapper, which is what they did and it for sure worked.

So, should you buy the Travis Scott meal? Maybe. The meal is pretty straightforward, when you read what the meal contains expect exactly that and nothing more.
