The Best Upcoming Marvel Movies

Marvel Studios has been releasing movies for their cinematic universe for 13 years now, today we’re going to look at the five coming out next and what we know so far.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (9/3/21)

This is the Marvel movie closest to coming out, with it entering theaters in a week or so. A pretty good amount is known about the film, with multiple trailers and teasers having been released already. Chinese actor Simu Liu plays the titular character in only his third film role, with Awkwafina (from Raya and the Last Dragon), Tony Leung, and Benedict Wong (from Doctor Strange) rounding out the supporting cast. The film was released to critics on August 25th, and currently holds a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Eternals (11/5/21)

Even if you’re not a Marvel fan, this film has plenty of big names for you to get attached to, such as Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), Angelina Jolie, and Salma Hayek. The first trailer was released a few weeks ago, to mostly mixed reviews. The second trailer came out on August 19th and was considered an improvement by many fans and critics. An interesting fact is the director of the movie is Chloe Zhao, who has only directed three films before this one, but won an Oscar for Best Director (Nomadland, 2019).

Spider Man: No Way Home (12/17/21)

No Way Home is easily the most highly anticipated Marvel film on this list, and possibly the most anticipated film of the year. The main reason for this is the possibility of former Spider Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning, along with Jamie Foxx (The Amazing Spider Man 2) and Alfred Molina (Spider Man 2) confirmed to be reprising their roles as Electro and Doctor Octopus. Fans have been clamoring for the trailer for months, and early August 24th it finally came.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (3/25/22)

Most of the cast returns from the first Doctor Strange movie, with Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff in other MCU films) and little-known actress Xochitl Gomez being the only new additions so far. Chiwetel Ejiofor will play the main villain Karl Mordo, who was Strange’s best friend through most of the first film. The multiverse has been hinted at in TV shows Loki, WandaVision, and What-If, but this will be the first real look at what a multiverse would mean for the MCU.

Thor: Love and Thunder (5/6/22)

After the critically acclaimed Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi returns for the fourth Thor film, making it the longest solo franchise in the MCU. Most of the Guardians of the Galaxy will play a role in the film, along with former Batman actor Christian Bale as the villain. Natalie Portman will also return as Jane Foster from Thor 1 and 2, and is expected to take over the mantle of Mighty Thor.
