Make Anxiety Fun Again!
Anxiety is fun, but you didn’t hear that from me. It gives you the boost of energy to do things you otherwise wouldn’t think of doing and when you do them you feel particularly achieved. Anxiety is also beneficial in terms of production and communication. Being rushed is not a situation that people with anxiety want to be in so they tend to be extra prepared to avoid this. Communication skills are something that tend to come along with anxiety, anxious people are driven to express themselves. To reap these benefits of anxiety you do have to find a way to control it.
In high school it’s easy to let anxiety get the best of you but it doesn’t have to be that way. Junior Addison S. explains that, “I try to use my anxiety for the better. I know I tend to get anxious when big tests are coming up so I motivate myself to study ahead. If it weren’t for my anxiety, I don’t know if I would have that drive to get all that studying in.” Anxiety can also help in those extra curricular. Junior Thespian Krissy T. says, “I use the nerves that I get most performances to get into character. When I’m not anxious it is actually harder for me to get into character.”
As I mentioned before, anxiety can be fun. The thrill that comes along with anxiety can be enjoyable. Senior Imani G. says, “When it comes to exciting things like going on rollercoasters and airplanes, I feel like those anxious nerves make the experience more enjoyable. It gives you the thrilling sensation needed to enjoy those types of things.”
For these reasons, anxiety shouldn’t be seen as a completely horrible thing. Yes, anxiety has many downfalls but it simultaneously has its own benefits. Benefits that are usually overshadowed by the downsides. Anxiety can motivate and bring joy to people, it’s for those reasons that we should Make Anxiety Fun Again 2022!
