Was “Wednesday” Overrated or Worth the Hype?

“Wednesday was such a good show! It was the best show of the year!” Was it though? Why was it so hyped? Because of one choreographed dance made by Jenna Ortega or the “epic” drama, mystery plot?

The show “Wednesday” has blown up over the past few months through various social media platforms. It became very popular when Wednesday’s dance, choreographed by Jenna Ortega, was turned into a TikTok trend with the replaced Lady Gaga song, “Bloody Mary”.  The show became so popular that it almost reached number one for the most popular English-language series on Netflix. At first, I wasn’t going to watch it, but the popularity intrigued me.

Here is what I thought of the show Wednesday:

My Thoughts

At first thought, I was expecting a continuation of the Addams family movies from the 90s, which it kind of was, but not in the way I was thinking. They have turned the show into a teen drama mystery to attract more of the Gen Z audience. In my opinion, the show was very cringy filled with annoying characters. The plot wasn’t the best. The overdone love triangle, a school for misfits, monsters, all things we’ve all seen before. The show wasn’t original and was simply predictable.

The show was just another quirky Netflix drama series.

Others Opinions

I asked fifty students at Lake Mary High School to see their perspective. The results were that twenty students believed that the show was worth the hype and twenty eight agreed with me that the show is overrated.

I interviewed a few others as well to see their thought process:

Kaitlyn Coussa thought the show was worth the hype. She said, “In the end, I enjoyed the show thoroughly. The plot and the acting were well done. I can’t wait for the next season. I want Tyler and Wednesday to be together, so hopefully it happens in the next season.”

Ashley Victoriano agreed with the majority that the show was overrated. She said, “It was mid. The plot wasn’t really that good and they just mixed a bunch of things together, which made it really complicated. And they went ahead and made a really cute guy kind of evil and it makes no sense. At the end she has a stalker, like who would be stalking her, like come on she would be stalking you! I wish that the goblin dude turned out to be good and then Wednesday would get with him. Also, I loved how they tried to make the show look really good, but it was just honestly mid.”

Conclusion

Overall, most people thought the show was overrated. At most, it revitalized the character once again.

I’m not saying in any means that the show was awful, but was it truly worth the hype?

No. It wasn’t.
