What’s it like being on the LMHS Swim Team?
“The swim team is very encouraging and always pushes me to try my hardest. It feels really good to belong to a team and form amazing friendships with my teammates.”
Is the practice/training demanding? If so, how many times do you train in a week?
“Training is very demanding at times. Believe me the hardest struggle is getting up so early for morning practices, but once you get into it you get used to it. We train 6 days out of the 7 in a week which includes practices after school Monday through Friday, weight training before school starts Monday and Thursday for girls, Tuesday and Friday for boys, and Saturday swim practice with weight training alternating every other week for the boys and girls. So overall, training can be pretty rough.”
What motivates you to become a better swimmer?
“My team in general really motivates me, we have such positive teammates that root for you on everything. I aspire to work harder and be as great as the upperclassmen on our team one day.”
How long is the swim season? (Start to end)
“The start of the swim season begins in the beginning of August, right when school starts and it ends mid November.”
What is your favorite part about swimming?
“My favorite part about swimming is getting better. I love my coaches and teammates and they push me to be a better swimmer everyday. Outside of practice we also do fun team bonding activities where we get to know each other better and go to restaurants and even fun events like possibly going to Halloween Horror Nights in October; so the team does get to have a social life.”
How are the meets so far, have you guys won any yet?
“Meets are so awesome, I’ll admit they can be a little nerve-wracking but they get the whole team pumped up. In our first meet against Lyman and Winter Springs we won the tri-meet overall and it was really exciting.”
