Teens are going over the deep end, but there is a positive side to all of this mental anguish. You can make a lot of money. Teen therapy is a lucrative and growing field in need of new employees.
A lot of people have mental illness that go undiagnosed due to past traumas in their lives. A Lot of things happen in our lives between the ages 2 to 18 that can affect our mental health. Friends may leave, parents can divorce, the weight of people words can affect how we value and name our identity. Our innocence can be stolen and even the voices in our head can self sabotage our experiences in this world and etc. During our preoperational stage (2-7 years old) our brain is developing things symbolically which means were growing a sense of imagination and memory of the past. Children in this state of mind are prone to coping and paste the actions and words displayed in front of them. They will learn the basics of what good and bad by what you teach them is good and bad. As a parent or guardian of children in this age range you have to be vary careful what you tell them and how you reprimand them. Children will believe anything an adult tells them and by calling them bad you are verbally abusing them into thinking that in general there bad instead of their action. So even though you might move on with life thinking everything is ok you would have unintentionally left a mark on them that they may never forget leading them to think that they are a failing and will never amount to greater in life.
There are many mental disorders you can get from verbal, emotional, physical, sexual, domestic abuse. Having a mental disorder because of these things you went through as a child is never your fault. It just needs to be treated so that it doesn’t control or destroy your character or potential of you have a bright and healthy future and clean relationships. There are some cases where maybe you were not mentally abused but people around you were and they fed there pain to you to negatively influence your perspective on love or the injustice of life. Being mentally stable is so important because that is a river the streams into every relationship and encounter you will ever have in life. Knowing your worth matters and identifying others with questionable behavior is important so you can protect your subconscious state of mind. This is where psychology comes in hand learning how to effectively communicate, express your emotion, and identify when someone is trying to manipulate, blame, or verbally abuse you so you can help be one step ahead and respond effectively. Being in control of what you allow and what you don’t allow can prevent mental illnesses from occurring.
Also sometimes you can be the problem. Sometimes we are removes from horrible situation but it still leaves a wound that cause inner rage that ends up being displaced. A Lot of people struggle with displaced anger that has them making small situation blow up. My job is to help them identify those qualities in themselves and give them coping mechanisms to calm themselves when getting heated. Also if I can get to the root of the problem then we can start the proper healing process. Therapy is not just a place to blame other for injustices but also identify problems within yourself.
