Addison Novitchkov is a freshman on lake Mary High Schools varsity softball team. Addison has been playing softball for many years and I am going to be asking her questions about her softball journey.
Q: At what age did you start playing softball?
Addison: I was 8 years old when I started playing. And honestly, my mom just signed me up because she wanted me to play and the rest is history.
Q: Well since your mom signed you up did you enjoy it?
Addison: At first I didn’t really like it. It took me quite a while to get into it. After a while though, I really fell in love with playing.
Q: What is your dream college for softball? Why?
Addison: My dream college is either University of Florida or Tennessee. I had always dreamed of going to one of these schools. The teams are amazing, one of the best. I just think it would be an amazing opportunity to be able to play for either of them.
Q: How many hours a week do you train for softball?
Addison: I train 12 to 14 hours a week. I train at the school 5 days a week and on the weekends I do a little extra training or I’ll do strength training. Some days I’ll also do private lessons with my coaches.
Q: Who is your favorite softball player? Why?
Addison: My favorite player is Amanda lorenz. She has been an inspiration to me for years and I seriously look up to her. One of my biggest role models.
Q: What position do you play?
Addison: I play catcher and first base. Catching is definitely not easy because when I’m catching you are basically just squatting the whole game so your legs have to be very strong. First is also hard because you get most of the balls thrown to you so you have to be ready at all times.
Q: How do you manage your athletic responsibilities with your fun activities?
Addison: It’s just kinda like I have to accept the fact that softball is my “fun activities”. I have tournaments almost every weekend during the travel season. There are only a few occasions where I don’t have softball and I actually have time to hang out with my friends and family.
