You enter high school and the first big dance is coming….. HOMECOMING! You get to dance, dress up, and have fun with your friends but is it really all that? To really decide whether it’s really with it or not we will judge based on three criteria’s : Cost, Overall atmosphere, and the word of the LMHS students.
To begin with price we not only have to look at the ticket cost but also outfit cost and maybe even transportation. Only to go it costs already $50 then you add on the average cost of an outfit which is $150 up to $300. Just that alone is upwards of $200 but let’s say you and your friends decide to get a limo or a party bus, now you are looking at an additional $150 to $300. Now this brings you to a grand total of nearly $400,in other words $100 per hour you’re at homecoming. Maybe none of this sounds like a problem to you so let’s move on to the next criteria.
The hours of homecoming are 7 pm to 11 pm. It takes place in the cafeteria at school, from personal experience 7 to 9 is mostly people getting settled in and is known as the “awkward time”. Then people start getting more comfortable, dancing, and the fun starts so now really you only get 2 hours of fun. Not only are you just now having fun at 9 but you remember you are paying to go to school on a Saturday to jump in a sweaty circle…. Yuck!
Now we went around to your classmates and got their opinions. Senior Jayden Mery says “it’s fun to dress up but homecoming itself is always so boring”. Another Senior Rhiana Rodriguez adds that “Other school’s homecoming’s are so much better because of the music, atmosphere, and excitement”. So don’t just take it from me, maybe homecoming isn’t all that it is talked up to be.
