Mrs. Leblanc Interview

Mrs. Leblanc Interview

Mrs. Leblanc is an 2D art teacher who always brings a positive energy to the classroom. She does a good job making the class fun but still getting the students to learn different art methods and vocabulary. From my personal expeirence Ive learned a lot to make my drawings look more detailed and 3 dementional from her class and the semester isn’t even over yet. She’s been a teacher at our school for 30 + years and was the girls weightlifting coach for 4 years and the girls lacrosse coach for 2 years. Many students enjoy her class and like mrs.Leblanc so I decided to interview her to get to learn more about her than just being a teacher and to see how she feels about her job as well as learn about her experience.

Tell us about yourself outside of the classroom? “Im married with two kids both of them go to school here, I’m active at my church I also like to walk and bike ride.” When did you fall in love with art and when did you know you wanted your career to be involved around it? “Well my father is an artist and so I grew up around it we always had art supplies and anything we needed around the house It was kind of inherited on us my two younger sisters are also involved in art one also an art teacher and the other into music.” Do you make any art projects pf your own on your own time? “Not like I used to I used to have more time but i’ll make art here as demonstrations for student work but not as much as id like too, I’ve done art workshops over the summer and that’s great.” What’s one thing you like and one thing you dislike about teaching? “One thing I like is the students and one thing I don’t like is the students, it depends if they’re motivated and want to learn its awesome for me if they don’t then it makes my job harder.” Does your class teach your students any life skills outside of art? “Yeah it teaches them collaboration working with others and problem solving like trying to figure things out and being okay with messing up and starting over not giving up you know those types of things they’ll use when they leave after high school.” What’s one thing you like and dislike about coaching? “I loved seeing the students outside of the classroom and we had a different relationship because some of them were my students and some I never taught and when your in the weight room or out on the field its just different and fun and you get to know them in a different way. One thing I didn’t like was it was a lot of work it’s like a full time job on top of a full time job so I couldn’t do things for me and my assistant coaches weren’t always great so I did a lot on my own, but the coaching part I loved.” Describe your classroom in 3 words. “Relaxing, creative, fun.” What advice would you give a student who wants to pursue a career in art? “I would tell them to allow themselves to be critiqued when you allow people to give you positive and negative criticism it’ll allow you to grow as an artist and it’ll help you later on if you’re trying to find a job in the art field.”Describe a troubling student and the method you used to get them tp begin to do well in your class? Ive had a number of those even today when people come in late and miss instruction or misbehave I try get them to fell good about what they’ve done even the little things taking baby steps and trying to give them the motivation and confidence to keep going and not to give up.”
