On November 29th Spotify wrapped released for the 2023 year. Spotify wrapped is basically a presentation of your listening statistics for the year. Things like your favorite songs, your favorite artists, a video from on of your favorite artists, etc. Seeing my wrapped is one of my favorite things because I find that it’s either completely accurate or it’s off. So, let’s review my 2023 Spotify wrapped!
Top 5 Artists:
1- Tyler, The Creator
This wasn’t at all surprising. Igor is my favorite album of all time and I have 12 Tyler songs that I constantly listen to. It also wasn’t too shocking when I was in the top 1% of listeners. A little sad but not shocked. It also showed that I listened to him the most during April. I believe that’s the month I listened to Flower Boy again so again it makes sense why that month would be the time I streamed most.
2- Kali Uchis
I love love LOVE Kali so much oh my god. Her album Red Moon In Venus was so good so it makes sense why she’s so high up. It said that I listened to her most during May, which is when I listened to RMIV for the first time so that also adds up. I also got my artist video on wrapped from Kali!
3- NewJeans
NewJeans is my K-pop favorite group. They are so talented and the songs are so catchy. Even though they don’t have too many songs I have listened to them on repeat and consistently throughout the year. It said that I listened to them the most during October, which is when a friend put me onto other K-pop bands which ignited my love for NewJeans even more.
4- TWICE
Twice is another K-pop group that I really love. A close friend of mine gave me a playlist of K-pop songs to listen to dip my feet into the Genre, and TWICE is my new obsession. I would say I’ve added over 20 songs from TWICE to my playlist just from my friends playlist. It shows that I listened to the group most in October, which is when my friend gave me the playlist to listen to and when I was introduced to them.
5- Childish Gambino
Honestly I was a little shocked to see Childish Gambino made is at my #5 artist but I am pleasantly surprised. I’m ashamed to say it but I only have 4 CG songs on my playlist. I have to say I love those songs so much and I’m sure I kept those songs on repeat to the point where he deserves the #5 spot just for those songs alone. It shows that I listened to him most in May, and I listened to Les and Heartbeat a lot during the beginning stages of summer so it adds up.
Top 5 Songs:
1- WHATS GOOD – Tyler, The Creator
Any song from Igor is great, but WHATS GOODÂ is such a good hype song. There have been days where I played this song on repeat 4 or 5 times in a row. It gets me ready to do whatever I need to do that day. I love this song so much it is such a bop and I’m more then happy with this being my #1 song for the year.
2- Me and Your Mama – Childish Gambino
Me and Your Mama is probably one of if not my favorite songs of all time. The beginning is slow and unassuming but when the shift of the song comes it’s hypnotizing. The lyrics show such a devotion to love and it’s truly beautiful. I would give up one of my lungs to be able to hear this song for the first time again I love it so much. The only reason it’s not higher is because it’s over 6 minutes long, but it’s something that I consistently replayed throughout the whole year.
3- NEW MAGIC WAND – Tyler, The Creator
I love NEW MAGIC WAND so much. The song talks about jealousy and resentment and the synth itches a part of my brain perfectly. It’s one of my favorites off Igor and I’m happy that this song blew up on TikTok because it put a lot of people onto such an amazing song. I love it so much and it makes sense how it got to the #3 spot.
4- See You Again – Tyler, the Creator + Kali Uchis
See You Again is a collaboration between my favorite two artists so of course it was going to get to the #4 spot. Kali’s light and breathy vocals contrasting Tyler’s rapping sounds incredible. This is my favorite song off Flower Boy for good reason. This song also went viral on TikTok this year, which also made me so happy to see so many people talk about this track.
5- Hey, Mickey! – Baby Tate
This song is one of few songs that has a sample that is actually really good. It’s a cute and hypnotizingly catchy song that’s easy to get addicted to. Hey, Mickey! is a good song but I’m a little shocked it made it to the #5 spot. Honestly I used to really love this song but I haven’t touched it in months. I first found it on TikTok and it was on loop for a good 4-5 months. After that I got sick of it and it collected dust in my playlist. I think the fact that it made it so high even without me playing it for months shows how much I loved this song.
Overall I feel that my wrapped was good. This year has been such an interesting one when it comes to my music. I’ve been all over the place from Radiohead to Doja cat, Lana Del Rey to Keshi, and beabadoobee to Odetari, etc. I love my eclectic taste and I feel my wrapped summed it up perfectly!
