NASA is seeking the average, regular person to be in a simulated one-year Mars surface mission to see what human life would look like on Mars.
The program’s focus is being inclusive by selecting participants based on basic health criteria rather than specialized skills, so they can have an understanding of how a regular person will undergo Mars’s conditions.
Participants go through rigorous training, acquiring the necessary skills to navigate Mars’ harsh conditions and conduct scientific experiments, creating a bridge between ordinary people and space exploration. They are set to be in this 1,700 sqft simulation on Mar’s for a whole year.
Living on Mars presents its own set of challenges, from extreme temperatures to limited resources, but they aim to have the average Joe prepared to face these intense challenges. This is a big jump from normal space exploration trips/tests where only very seasoned and experienced people who are developed to face the challenges space brings, now anyone in good health mentally and physically who’s up for the challenge and training has the opportunity to get the space experience and do things they never thought they could before.
My friend Maya K said, “If I was an adult and had this oppertunity I would take it, it seems pretty interesting and experience no one could really say they’ve done.” Others disagree though, I spoke to my mom and she said “I would never do that because its year away from the my world and the ones I love, I couldn’t spend a year with little to contact with my family.”
In conclusion, NASA’s Mars simulation initiative not only promises an exhilarating adventure but also provides a significant opportunity for scientific exploration, paving the way for humanity’s potential habitation of Mars. Would you go?
