Over 16 and Don't Have A License

Uber!! Lyft!! Laziness!! The big reasons why teenagers don’t have their license. Even though driving gives you the feeling of freedom, some teenagers don’t have their license because they could get around town with Lyft or uber.

Not only can they get around town easily but also some teenagers don’t have their license because they failed their driving or even permit tests. Junior Jack Smith, “I failed my permit test and I don’t feel like taking it again. Besides I can ride my bike everywhere.” Failing a test can affect a person’s motivation and can cause them to stop trying all together.

Not having a license can make life difficult for the parents because some parents don’t trust Lyft or uber to drive their children around town. Sometimes uber drivers are not so safe, Senior Kaylee Johnson “I had an uber driver and he dropped me off at my church and then he wouldn’t leave he just kept circling my church’s parking lot, so I asked my friend’s parents to take me home.”

Not having your license also postpones your adulthood. Who wants to be a kid forever?  Yes, being a kid has perks, but so does being able to go to Taco Bell at 9pm when you are hungry without asking your mother for a ride. Junior Clarese Santiago “I agree not having your license postpones your adulthood and then you have to rely on other people to give you a ride; and let’s say they can’t give you a ride then you’re just stuck at home”

Freedom is what every teenager wishes for. However, when they don’t want to show the initiative to get their license and take that first step, they are stuck at being a child and dependent on others. Driving gives you the feeling of being independent because for the first time you can go wherever you want and don’t need to beg your parents or your siblings to take you.
