Should we Help the Bahamas?
October 1, 2019
Sitting over the Bahamas for forty hours, Hurricane Dorian, completely destroyed the small islands. Only fifty miles away from Miami, should we help them recover from the brutal storm we all prepared for? A poll of fifty students and parents concludes that the majority, thirty-nine participants, believe that the U.S. should offer aid. But why would some oppose this seemingly trivial motion? Multiple students say that the U.S. is in too much debt to help anyone but ourselves. The opposing side says we are never getting out of debt so why not help. On September 2, USAID sent supplies and a search and rescue team to the Bahamas. The Trump administration also requested airlift to assist. Though the Bahamas won’t recover anytime soon, the aid they received has tremendously helped.
