Tik Tok Interview with Mrs.Shamet

Shelby Morgan and Simone Dollar, staff

Simone and Shelby interviewed one of the coolest and trendiest teachers at our school. That’s right, they interviewed biology teacher Mrs. Shamet and asked her some intriguing questions that they are sure you were all wondering the answer to.

What made you decide you wanted to be a teacher?

“Well, I started in undergrad in premed because I really like science and my family is medical but, when I started shadowing doctors and nurses, I realized the actual career path I didn’t really like. I didn’t like working in a hospital or being in a hospital, I didn’t like working with really sick patients. But then I took an elective class for education on a whim, and I love the idea of getting to have relationships with my students, that is not the same with patients when you can see a patient for two minutes at a time, with students I get to see them grow over the course of the year and I also get to be creative with the lessons I teach.”

What is your favorite hobby?

“I don’t know if this counts, but I actually lead worship for my church, and my husband is the guitarist, so my favorite thing to do is sing! My worship team and I plan events like we are going caroling next week to a retirement home. So yeah it’s really fun!”

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

“My favorite part about teaching, I mean I feel like this is cliche, is when students get something new. Actually the other day, when I put a trick question up for the punnet squares, it’s so great when my students realize that it is a trick question, and then they get it right. It’s so fun to see that, or just see them improve like ‘Oh I failed the last two tests’ but then they get a B on the next test and they are making progress. So working with my students is my favorite part.”

What is the most annoying thing students do?

“I feel like any teacher would say that phones are probably the most annoying. Well from my perspective if a student isn’t doing well in my class, if I could just pan over to the amount of times they have been on their phone, it would probably be the most annoying, or the number of times I have to tell them not to be on snapchat and I have a fear of being on peoples snapchats.”
