Rupauls Drag Race: A Breakthrough In Television

Marcel Baez, Arts & Entertainment Editor

Everyone has that one show that they think is the best thing to ever to happen since sliced bread, or how it’s changing TV itself. Well, people can take that TV show that they think is the best and throw it in the trash and forget about it. One thing that people don’t understand is that the TV show “Rupaul’s Drag Race” has made a breakthrough in TV today and revolutionizing the way we watch cable.

“Rupaul’s Drag Race” is hosted by the royal herself, Rupaul, and the show is about 14 drag queens competing for the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar and a grand prize. What makes this show special is that it’s different than any other. It’s crazy, out of the ordinary, and it’s what we need in this time of panic and crisis going on in this world. With this show you not only have drama, you have comedy, emotion, and many, many cliff hangers. This show gives us the insight in the drag world, and how tough it is to really be a drag queen.
One thing that everyone loves is to laugh. And lucky for everyone, Rupaul’s Drag Race makes you laugh until die, or as Mama Rupaul says: “Death drop honeeeyy!” The comedy in this show is what makes it so amazing. From the game of celebrity impersonations known as Snatch Game, to the unforgettable “Lip Syncs For Your Life” and also to some of the competing queens with their quotes, this show will leave you wanting more. Junior Alyssa Case said: “Rupaul’s Drag Race is such a fun show to watch. Whenever I’m having a bad day, I just switch on the TV and watch it.”
A major message that RPDR shows and gives to its viewers is that you need to love yourself for who you are. You may be wondering: How in the heck can a show about drag queens do that? And the answer is… Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent, (That’s a direct reference to Rupaul if you didn’t know.)! RPDR has had queens who were transgender, queens who were HIV positive, and queens who were battling personal demons to where they didn’t even know if they could continue with life itself. “I like how the show is open and inclusive with anyone, whether you’re a fan and watches it, or if your competing in the show yourself.” said junior Kylie Lupori. This show tells anyone whether your gay, straight, or anything, to embrace who you are flaws and all, and that there is only one of you, and no one can take you away you.
In this time of crisis with all of this insane-ness going on in the country and the world, Rupaul’s Drag Race is the show we’ve been waiting for to lift our spirits and just love life. So as Rupaul herself: “If you can’t love yourself how in the heck are you gonna love anybody else? Can I get an AMEN!”. Remember if your just looking for a TV show to laugh, cry, or heck even make up tips, then watch Rupaul’s Drag Race, you won’t regret it.
