What’s Bringing 10 Year Old’s Into Sephora?

Whats+Bringing+10+Year+Olds+Into+Sephora%3F

If you’ve seen the younger girls in makeup stores then you know that it’s becoming an issue. Sephora is a beauty store where they sell makeup, skincare, hair care, and more. Although recently people have been seeing kids younger than the recommended age group for these products in these stores. Popular skincare brands like glow recipe and drunk elephant have ingredients that could be harmful to young skin. Despite its many dangers, social media influences these children to buy these products.

When the kids are in these stores they tend to be disrespectful towards displays and employees. A lot of these displays have mixed products and are not usable for customers that have interest in buying these products. One said ” The last time I was in Sephora I wasn’t even able to shop for the things I needed because there were so many kids and messy displays.”  This is not only hard for the workers to clean up but it’s also a waste of the products.

The main reason why these kids are going to these stores is because of the products going viral on social media. Since technology is more popular in this generation 42% of kids get their first phone at age 10. Kids are easily influenced therefore if they see an influencer on social media posting about these products it’s going to be all they want to buy even if it’s not meant for them. Some people argue that since being on social media and posting videos is something the younger generation can enjoy we should let them. But at a young age social media can be harmful.

Social media has many negatives for teens’ mental health. Therefore being on social media at a younger age can start to affect younger kids. Things like hate comments can lower a kid’s confidence. So being on social media at a young age should either be closely monitored by an adult or should not be used at all since it could affect them in the long run.

Skin care also has multiple purposes depending on the product but some of its uses are to get rid of acne or to keep older skin looking younger. When kids are using these products it can cause harm if they are using a product for these issues without actually having the problem. A Lot of these products consist of retinol which is not supposed to be used until your mid 20’s – early 30’s. These products can be damaging to young skin and lead to more issues later on.
