Birds are everywhere. We see crows, pigeons, ducks, and plenty more on the daily. Have you considered having one as a pet? They make a great companion.
BEGINNER BIRDS
Before getting into why you should get a bird, let’s take a look at some of the different types of beginner birds you can adopt. Keep in mind that all birds can not be around fumes, and you can only use soy candles in the household.
PARAKEET
Parakeets are my personal choice for a starter bird. They are relatively easy to care for and are very sociable. Parakeets usually cost between $30 to $50. The cage you need for them costs around forty bucks.
CANARY
Canaries are about the same size as a parakeet. The difference is these birds do not like to be handled as much as parakeets do. Same sex pairs should not be housed together, as they will fight. Cages cost about 40 dollars, and the birds are around $100.
ZEBRA FINCH
These birds are tiny. Zebra finches usually are around 4 inches in length when fully grown, and only weigh around 13 grams. They are extremely active and thrive in pairs and groups. They are usually $25 each, and their cage is about forty dollars.
COCKATIEL
Cockatiels are much bigger compared to parakeets and zebra finches. They range from 11 to 14 inches long from head to tail. These birds need a larger cage, and prices range from $150 – $200. The bird itself can go for around 300 dollars.
WHAT’S SO GOOD ABOUT BIRDS?
Most birds are highly sociable. Some birds become your lifelong companion as they can live up to 80 years! They also serve as entertainment as they do stupid things all the time. Many people are allergic to cats and dogs, so birds are a good alternative. Some love cuddles. Birds are basically dogs that can fly.
If you don’t want a bird in your house, you can also put a bird feeder out in your backyard and the birds will make your backyard their new home. As the seasons change you will meet new birds as they migrate. The same birds will remember to come back to your backyard if you show them you are a food source.
If you need a little chaos or mischief in your life, birds are what you need.
